Frequently Asked Questions:
What does an EAL session look like? You can find more information about our EAL sessions on our page “What is EAL?“
What age participants do you accept? Participants ages 5 years old and up are welcome.
How many people can be in a group session? We can accommodate 3-12 participants in our group EAL sessions. If there is a larger group, we can rotate multiple groups through stations. 50 participants is our maximum occupancy. Parking is limited, so car-pooling is necessary for large groups.
Are your sessions accessible and adaptable for participants with physical or other limitations? Yes, to an extent. Please contact us about specific needs and accommodations. We seek to make our sessions accessible for everyone we can, but horse and participant safety is a top priority at Scattered Acres.
What do I need to do before I show up? Payment is due at the time of scheduling to hold your spot. Be sure that every person who will be on the property signs one of our liability release forms (you can find this form above) and either emails it to us or brings the signed hard copy along. Minors will also need an adult signature. If you forget, we can always print one off for you after you arrive, but we don’t want you to lose any valuable time with the horses!
What should I wear? Please be sure to wear closed toed shoes, and be prepared to spend your session outside. You will want appropriate clothing for the weather—as long as it is safe to drive, our sessions run as scheduled, rain or shine! Some things to consider include: mud, wind, sun, extreme temperatures, and bugs. We do have an indoor arena, so there is always a sheltered place to hold sessions.
What do I do when I arrive? When you arrive at Scattered Acres, please park in the designated areas by the horse trailers. You can then walk to the barn, and one of our employees will meet you there to get you started!
What if I need to cancel? Sessions are held in all types of weather. Payment in full is required for sessions canceled without notice. If you cancel a session with notice, a makeup session can be made available. 24 hours’ notice is required for sessions of 1-2 participants. 1 weeks’ notice is required for groups of 3 or more participants.
What if it is raining or snowing out? We have an indoor arena, so as long as the roads are safe to drive, sessions are held on schedule. If the roads are not safe in our direction, someone will call to let you know.
What if I’m nervous around horses? Is this safe? We use horses with personalities that are appropriate for stated participant needs and goals. Horse and participant safety is a top priority for our staff. We will ask you to step outside your comfort zone, and we recognize that this will look different for each person.
